At-Tafakkur: Journal of Islamic Studies

General Information

At-Tafakkur: Journal of Islamic Studies is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-quality scholarly works in the field of Islamic Studies. The journal welcomes original research articles, conceptual papers, systematic literature reviews, and critical reviews that have not been published or submitted elsewhere.

The journal publishes manuscripts in English. Manuscripts must demonstrate originality, academic rigor, and significant contributions to the advancement of Islamic Studies.

The journal accepts manuscripts related to:

  • Hadith Studies
  • Islamic Theology (Aqidah and Kalam)
  • Islamic Philosophy
  • Islamic Ethics
  • Islamic Law (Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh)
  • Maqasid al-Shariah
  • Sufism and Islamic Spirituality
  • Islamic Intellectual History
  • Contemporary Islamic Thought
  • Islam and Society
  • Religious Moderation and Interfaith Studies

Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Conceptual Papers
  • Systematic Literature Reviews
  • Critical Review Articles

Book reviews, conference reports, editorials, and opinion articles are not accepted.


Manuscript Language

All manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English.

Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally proofread before submission.


Manuscript Length

  • 6,000–8,500 words
  • Including references, tables, and figures

Manuscript Format

  • Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
  • A4 paper
  • Times New Roman
  • Font size: 12 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides
  • Page numbers should not be added.

Manuscript Structure

Title

  • Maximum 16 words
  • Clear, concise, and informative
  • Avoid abbreviations whenever possible

Author Information

Include:

  • Full name (without academic title)
  • Affiliation
  • Country
  • ORCID ID (recommended)
  • Email address

Abstract

Maximum 250 words

The abstract should briefly describe:

  • Background
  • Purpose
  • Method
  • Findings
  • Conclusion

Do not include citations.


Keywords

Provide 3–5 keywords separated by semicolons.

Example:

Islamic Ethics; Qur'anic Studies; Contemporary Islam; Maqasid al-Shariah


Main Body

1. Introduction

The introduction should include:

  • Research background
  • Research gap
  • Literature review
  • Research objectives
  • Research novelty

2. Method

Clearly describe:

  • Research design
  • Data sources
  • Participants (if applicable)
  • Instruments
  • Data collection
  • Data analysis

For conceptual papers, explain the analytical framework.


3. Results and Discussion

Present findings clearly.

Discussion should:

  • Interpret findings
  • Compare with previous studies
  • Explain theoretical implications
  • Explain practical implications

Avoid presenting raw data without interpretation.


4. Conclusion

The conclusion should:

  • Answer research objectives
  • Highlight major findings
  • Present recommendations
  • Suggest future research

Do not merely repeat previous sections.


Tables and Figures

  • Must be numbered consecutively.
  • Must include titles.
  • Figures should have captions below.
  • Tables should have titles above.
  • Images must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

Citation Style

The journal uses:

APA Style (7th Edition)

Reference

Authors are strongly encouraged to use:

  • Mendeley
  • Zotero
  • EndNote

Reference Requirements

  • Minimum 25 references
  • At least 80% should be journal articles
  • At least 80% should be published within the last 10 years
  • Every reference cited in the text must appear in the reference list and vice versa.

Originality

Submitted manuscripts must:

  • Be original
  • Not be under consideration elsewhere
  • Have a similarity index of less than 20% (excluding bibliography, quotations, and standard methodological expressions).
